Smart Homeowner Savings

CIG Appliance & Electronics Breakdown Coverage

Smart Savings & Protection for Homeowners

With the stress of making ends meet, the last thing most families need is a TV, computer, or washing machine suddenly breaks down.

The truth is that most homeowners do not budget for repairs on their home appliances or electronics equipment. We take for granted that our appliances and electronic equipment will never break down. But when these gadgets do break down – and they do – the repair costs can be devastating.

According to a 2006 Consumer Reports Products Reliability Survey, for most brand named appliances the repair rates for 3-4 year old major home appliances range between 20% and 43%. As an example, approximately 30% of front-loading washing machines, side-by-side refrigerators with icemakers, and desktop computers require some sort of repair after three-to-four years of use.

“A small investment in home appliance and electronic breakdown insurance coverage can save homeowners hundreds of dollars and a lot of aggravation,” noted Eric Hartwell, Capital Insurance Group (CIG), Claims Manager “Now our homeowner insurance customers can add the coverage to their existing policy, protecting major appliances and electronic equipment for as little as $27 a year.”

CIG’s new Homeowner Appliance and Electronics Breakdown coverage labor and parts expenses, replacement of items that cannot be repaired, loss-of-use, and additional living expenses if the homeowner’s dwelling becomes uninhabitable during the repair or replacement, and includes coverage up to:

• $50,000 per occurrence (after $500 deductible is met)

• $3000 for spoilage of perishable goods

• $3000 for pollution clean-up

• $3000 for expending expenses

• $3000 for “Go Green” energy-saving replacement parts or items

Household items including refrigerators, computers, stoves, ovens, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioning systems, solar panels, TV’s security systems, washers, dryers, pumps, pool and spa are all covered.
