Junior Golfers Make Hole-in-One

Three Youth Golfers Score Hole-in-Ones at Capital Insurance Group

Sponsored NCPGA & NCGA 2011 Junior Tour

Threesome will join CIG CEO at AT&T Pebble Beach Junior Tour Golf Tournament November 15

MONTEREY, Calif. (November 9, 2011) – For the average golfer, the odds of making a hole-in-one are about 12,000 – 1. The odds of three junior golfers each making a hole-in-one in seventeen tournaments is just as rare. This is what happened to Drew Kim (12), Christopher Larson (15), and Kelsey Kawaguchi (15) over the course of the 2011 NCPGA and NCGA Junior Tour of Northern California Series, which ended October 30, 2011 and is sponsored by Capital Insurance Group (CIG), the leading western and regional property and casualty insurer.

Drew Kim, the youngest of the three golfers, sank his first hole-in-one on the 7th hole at Metropolitan Golf Links in Oakland, California. And by his account, he actually got to see the ball disappear into the hole. Drew is from Los Altos, California and is an 8th grader at Egan Junior High School. “This was my first hole-in-one, and I was extremely excited when it happened. After a long round at Metropolitan Golf Course, I just wanted to finish with a par. Instead, on my last hole (of the shotgun round), I watched as my tee shot rolled into the hole. I couldn’t have been happier when I saw my ball disappear,” said Drew.

Sinking his second ever hole-in-one, Christopher Larsen from Dublin California is a sophomore at Dublin High School, where he plays on his high school golf team. He made a hole-in-one on the 5th hole at the Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park, California. “I did not see the ball go in the cup. I heard the crowd cheering and really thought it was just a good shot. As I started walking toward the hole and heard the ball hit the pin, then I got excited,” said Christopher. His first hole-in-one came last year at San Ramon Golf Club.

To end the last Fall Series Tournament of the season, Kelsey Kawaguchi made her first ever hole-in-one on the 7th hole of the Chardonnay course at Poppy Ridge in Livermore, California. A sophomore at Los Altos High School in Los Altos California, Kelsey plays on the Boys Varsity Golf Team. “My hole-in-one at Poppy Ridge Golf Course was one of the most exciting moments of my life. When the ball first reached the green, it landed a foot behind the hole and spun back in. I stood there in disbelief and only when everyone started cheering did I realize that I had actually scored a hole-in-one. I could not stop smiling for the next two days,” said Kelsey. It seems Kelsey has hole-in-one genetics in her family. Her younger brother Alec at age 9 had his first hole-in-one and her older brother, Sean, had his first hole-in-one at age 12, and his second at age 18.

“CIG is pleased to share the excitement of a hole-in-one with these three fine junior golfers,” said Peter Cazzolla, President and CEO of Capital Insurance Group. “Our sponsorship commitment to the NCPGA Foundation and Junior Tour of Northern California is enriched by the outstanding level of play from all the junior tour players, and accentuated by the three players who found the elusive hole-in-one.”

In recognition of sinking a hole-in-one, Capital Insurance Group has assembled a unique team for the upcoming AT&T Pebble Beach Junior Tour Golf Association’s 21st Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser to be held Tuesday, November 15, 11:30 a.m. at the historic Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, California. The CIG team is comprised of CEO, Peter Cazzolla, having scored an ace himself, and these three junior golfers. The group will also be paired with a professional player. In addition, the three junior players will be awarded with the commemorative CIG Hole-in-One Club box, engraved with their name, location and date of their hole-in-one.
