The number of lawsuits for personal injury have increased substantially.

The Liability Factor

The word “liability”is based on the idea that the legal resident on a property is responsible for maintaining a safe place for people visiting or working on the property. If you are renting a property, you are liable for injuries that occur on the property — even if some other person or company is the legal owner of that property. Should a person fall because of a hazardous element or situation, both the renter and property owner may be held liable.

Renting is not usually subject to the same liability exposure as owning a property, but as a CIG-insured renter you will still benefit from coverage to protect the contents of your residence and to defend against your liability exposure. CIG Renters Insurance covers the cost of replacing items that are stolen, damaged or destroyed. Renters insurance is not a requirement in any legal sense like auto insurance. However, some rental leases do require tenants to take out insurance to cover their liability exposure — especially if the property contains a pool — and to cover damages caused by items owned by the renter, such as water damage from leaked waterbeds or damages caused by pets. The landlord is not required to insure against losses incurred by a tenant unless the tenant can prove that the landlord had been negligent.

Consider CIG Renters Insurance for your valuables, firearms, artwork and defense against your liability exposure.
