Think Twice coverage

Your investment is truly protected from an unexpected loss or damage due to theft, fire, water damage or an accident. That’s why CIG pays up to twice your dwelling fire coverage, if that’s what it costs you to rebuild.

The cost of construction continues to rise at an even faster pace after a disaster. This is one reason why when a home is totally destroyed in a fire or natural disaster, your insurance payout may not be enough to rebuild. CIG pays up to twice the amount of your dwelling coverage, if that's what it will cost you to rebuild. You won't get that much from another insurer.  Just compare that with your own policy or your neighbor's.

CIG Think Twice coverage

makes rebuilding possible

Here's how it works:

Say a house with coverage of $300,000 on the dwelling is lost in a fire.  The policy client gets an estimate to rebuild and the contractor determines that it would cost $600,000.  With a CIG policy, if the homeowner chooses Option (a), CIG up to $600,000, if that's what it actually costs to rebuild a comparable home on the same property.  Should the policy client choose Option (b), CIG still pays up to $600,000, if that's what it actually costs to rebuild elsewhere, including other states.  If the homeowner prefers Option (c), then CIG will pay the replacement costs, up to $600,000 in this example, if that's what the homeowner actually spends on the purchase of the comparable home.

CIG offers the following options to homeowners experiencing a total loss

  • (a)  rebuild at the original site
  • (b)  rebuild elsewhere
  • (c)  buy an equivalent replacement home at a location of your choosing, including in another state
